Rule of Law: Government in all of its actions is bound by rules fixed and announced beforehand - rules which make it possible to forsee with fair certianty how authority will use its coercive powers in given circumstances and to plan one's individual affairs on the basis of this knowledge.

Life in the 3L

Funny thing about 3L year. The focus for me is more on real law more than educational hypo's. I try to balance life between the two aspects, but I fnd myself drawn to the actual learning and way from the pretend learning. I will probably regret this statement later, but work is so much more satisfying. I am solving real problems, for real people. I am learning how to accomplish other peoples goals with only my own knowledge. I once heard of a lawyer who had a client complain about his bill. The client came into the office asking for the resolution of a legal problem. He needed to know what he should do to be in complience with the law under a certian situation. His neighbor was using his land for a period of years and he no longr wanted his neighbor to use it. He came to the lawyer and asked what he could do about it. The lawyer asked a few questions and then told the man of his rights. The man then informed his neighbor and the problem was resloved. A week later, the man got a bill for $1,000.00. He called up his lawyer and questioned the bill. He asked, you only spent 15 min. on my case. How in the world can my bill be $1,000.00. The lawyer calmy said would give the man a breakdown of the the bill. This is how it worked.

Bill

$100.00 15 Minutes of office time $400.00 per hour
$900.00 4,800 Hours of law School $5.00 per hour*
----------
$1,000.00

* Becasue I like you, I worked for less than minimum wage for the bulk of your case.

Update from Carbondale

WoOo HoOo....Iam so close to being done with Law School I can taste it. I thought that I wanted to be a student forever, and maybe I will come back to school, but I really am looking forward to coming home from work/school and not having homework. I am looking forward to the day when I can come home and do laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc... without feeling guilty that I have homework to accomplish. I don't know what life after law school will bring me....I am sure it won't always be easy or fun...but look out real world, here I come.
